HBO Max acquires EMEA streaming rights to A24's 'Crystal Lake' prequel series

Warner Bros. Discovery announced that HBO Max has secured the exclusive streaming rights for the eight‑episode horror series "Crystal Lake" across the EMEA region, excluding the United Kingdom and Ireland. Produced by independent studio A24 and set as a prequel to the iconic "Friday the 13th" franchise, the series explores the early life of Pamela Voorhees and the tragic drowning of her son Jason. The show stars Emmy‑nominated actress Linda Cardellini as Pamela, with William Catlett, Callum Vinson and other cast members joining the project. "Crystal Lake" is slated for release on HBO Max in 2026. The acquisition expands HBO Max’s European catalogue with a high‑profile horror title and marks the first time the franchise will be presented as a streaming‑only original in the region.
