HBO Max announces Harry Potter series release date
HBO Max has announced that its new Harry Potter television series will premiere on December 25. The first season will adapt the first book, “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone,” consisting of eight episodes.
Unlike some competitors, the series will not be released all at once. Instead, episodes will be released weekly on Fridays, continuing through February 14, 2027. The production aims to provide a more detailed and faithful adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s novels compared to the previous film series.
The new cast features Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley. Other notable cast members include John Lithgow, Janet McTeer as Professor McGonagall, and Warwick Davis returning as Professor Flitwick. Kit Harington has been cast as Gilderoy Lockhart for the second season, which has already been renewed to adapt “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.”
Initial interest appears high, with the first trailer reportedly accumulating 277 million views within 48 hours.
