HBO Max announces ‘Zmora’ crime series starring Magdalena Cielecka

The crime series ‘Zmora’ is set to premiere on HBO Max in autumn 2026. Based on the bestselling novel by Robert Małecki, the production is a dark thriller that weaves together contemporary timelines with the 1980s and 1990s.

Magdalena Cielecka stars as Kama Kossowska, a controversial journalist who returns to her hometown of Toruń. Her return triggers a series of long-unanswered questions when Commissioner Tomasz Korcz reopens the investigation into the disappearance of her childhood friend, Piotrek. The story explores decades-old secrets and the blurring lines between the past and the present.

Directed by Łukasz Jaworski, the series features an ensemble cast including Piotr Żurawski, Łukasz Simlat, Piotr Głowacki, and Maria Pakulnis. The production is handled by Opus TV for TVN Warner Bros. Discovery.
