HBO Max expands content library with Universal titles

HBO Max is expanding its content library through significant licensing deals and a consolidated catalog. By September 2026, the service will include several major titles from the Universal catalog, such as the ‘Back to the Future’ trilogy, ‘E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial’, ‘Gladiator’, and ‘Resident Evil’.

This move highlights Warner Bros. Discovery’s strategy of licensing titles from competitors to bolster its platform, particularly in markets like Germany where Universal’s own Peacock service is not active.

The service, which bundles productions from HBO, Warner Bros., and Discovery, features a wide range of prestige content including ‘Game of Thrones’, ‘The Last of Us’, ‘House of the Dragon’, and ‘Euphoria’. The catalog aims to provide a comprehensive selection of film classics, current cinema titles, and acclaimed series.
