HBO Max expands global distribution via new streaming partnerships

Warner Bros. Discovery is significantly expanding the footprint of its HBO Max streaming service across the Asia-Pacific region and Europe through several strategic partnerships.

In Japan, HBO Max will launch on October 1 as a dedicated hub within both Amazon Prime Video and Hulu Japan. The partnership with Nippon Television, which owns Hulu Japan, includes potential international distribution of local content. Hulu Japan subscribers will access the HBO Max Standard Tier at no additional cost, while Prime Video users can subscribe via an add-on. A major highlight of this rollout is the upcoming HBO Original Harry Potter series, with the first season, ‘Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone’, scheduled to debut in late December.

Further expansion includes the launch of HBO Max in New Zealand and Vietnam, completing key rollouts in Southeast Asia and the ANZ markets. In the Netherlands, HBO Max has partnered with Videoland to offer a combined subscription bundle, merging local Dutch content with international HBO and Warner Bros. franchises.

Content available across these platforms includes major titles such as ‘House of the Dragon’, ‘The Last of Us’, ‘Game of Thrones’, and various DC Universe films.
