HBO Max's DC Series 'Lanterns' Set for August Premiere

The upcoming HBO Max series "Lanterns"—produced by DC Studios, Warner Bros. Television and HBO Max—will debut in mid‑August with an eight‑episode first season. The show follows intergalactic police officers Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler) and John Stewart (Aaron Pierre) as they investigate a murder in rural America that quickly escalates into a cosmic threat involving the alien Manhunters and the former Green Lantern Sinestro. The trailer also confirms that Laura Linney appears as one of the Guardians of the Universe, a role that may reshape how the Guardians are depicted. The series blends a buddy‑cop, True Detective‑style procedural with larger‑scale sci‑fi mythology, and also features cast members Nathan Fillion (Guy Gardner), Ulrich Thomsen (Sinestro), Kelly Macdonald and others.
