HBO Max to release documentary on Valentín Elizalde murder

HBO Max has announced the upcoming release of ‘Valentín: La muerte del Gallo de Oro’, a three-part documentary series scheduled to premiere on November 12. The series revisits the 2006 assassination of regional Mexican music star Valentín Elizalde, which occurred in Reynosa, Tamaulipas.

On November 25, 2006, an armed group intercepted the vehicle carrying the 27-year-old singer following a performance at the Expo-Feria Palenque. The attack resulted in the deaths of Elizalde, his manager Mario Mendoza Grajeda, and his driver Reynaldo Ballesteros. The singer's cousin, Fausto ‘Tano’ Elizalde, was the sole survivor of the incident.

The documentary aims to explore unresolved questions and new evidence surrounding the case, including allegations regarding the singer's travel itinerary and disputes over his estate and image rights. It also addresses claims from family members regarding an independent forensic report that was allegedly excluded from the official ministerial investigation.
