HBO miniseries dramatizes true story of Melania Rea

HBO is releasing a four-episode miniseries titled ‘Melania Rea – Oltre il caso’, based on the true story of Melania Rea, a 29-year-old woman from Campania who was a victim of femicide in 2011. The series, directed by Stefano Mordini and produced by Stand By Me, will premiere at the Rome Film Festival before becoming available exclusively on HBO Max.

The production reconstructs the complex judicial case that shocked Italy after Rea's body was discovered on April 20, 2011, in a forest within the Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga National Park. The narrative is built upon trial documents, testimonies from the victim's family, and accounts from journalists and investigators.

Maria Esposito stars as Melania Rea, while Daniele Rienzo portrays her husband, Salvatore Parolisi, an Army corporal major. The series aims to provide a faithful and sensitive portrayal of the events, which sparked a national debate regarding gender-based violence.
