Lanterns midseason trailer teases cosmic stakes and Hal Jordan's fate

HBO has released a midseason trailer for the DC Universe series ‘Lanterns’, previewing the final three episodes of its eight-episode first season. The footage suggests a shift toward cosmic stakes following the initial investigation into a murder in Rushville, Nebraska.

The trailer highlights several key plot developments: John Stewart (Aaron Pierre) is shown investigating the apparent death of Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler), while Sinestro and Guy Gardner (Nathan Fillion) also appear. A significant timeline jump to 2026 is teased, showing Hal Jordan in a state of captivity or reconstruction, which has fueled fan theories regarding whether the character is truly dead or if a ‘clone’ or ring-generated projection is involved.

Following the death of the Manhunter Zoe Macon in episode five, the narrative appears to be moving toward a larger conflict. DC Studios CEO James Gunn has teased that ‘the blackest night is yet to come’, a reference to major Green Lantern mythology that fans believe may be foreshadowed by the appearance of Sinestro and potential yellow ring technology.
