HBO releases new trailers and casting details for Harry Potter series
HBO has released new teaser trailers and casting details for its upcoming Harry Potter television series, which is scheduled to premiere on December 25, 2026, on HBO and HBO Max. The production aims to be a faithful, multi-season adaptation of J. K. Rowling’s book series, with each season covering one novel.
The first season, based on “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone,” will consist of eight episodes. The new cast features Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley, and Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger. Established actors including John Lithgow (Albus Dumbledore), Janet McTeer (Minerva McGonagall), Nick Frost (Rubeus Hagrid), and Paapa Essiedu (Severus Snape) will join the production.
Recent casting updates for the second season include Bonnie Hill as Ginny Weasley, replacing Gracie Cochrane, as well as Billy Barratt as Tom Riddle and Lenny Rush as Dobby. Kit Harington is also set to appear as Gilderoy Lockhart in the second season. The series is produced in collaboration with Brontë Film and TV and Warner Bros. Television.
