HBO series Melania Rea explores controversial Italian murder case

The new HBO Original series ‘Melania Rea – Oltre il caso’ was presented at the Rome Film Festival. The four-part crime drama reconstructs the 2011 murder of Melania Rea, a case that significantly impacted the Italian judicial system and public discourse regarding gender-based violence.

Maria Esposito stars as Melania Rea, while Daniele Rienzo portrays her husband, Salvatore Parolisi, who was convicted of the crime. Directed by Stefano Mordini, the series aims to move beyond the legal proceedings to explore the personal life, aspirations, and domestic dynamics of the victim before her death.

The series is scheduled to debut on HBO Max on November 6, 2026, with weekly episode releases.
