HBO to premiere ‘A Killer Story’ true crime documentary

HBO has announced the premiere of ‘A Killer Story’, a three-part documentary series scheduled for release on September 10, 2026. The series, directed by Matthew Galkin, will air weekly on HBO and be available for streaming on HBO Max.

The documentary examines a complex double-murder case from 2002 in Topeka, Kansas, involving Dana Chandler, who was accused of killing her former husband and his girlfriend. The narrative follows the legal battle that spanned three separate trials, including an overturned conviction and a subsequent prosecution.

Central to the investigation is journalist Joe Sexton, who began looking into the case after receiving extensive correspondence from Eileen and Keen Umbehr, who have advocated for Chandler’s innocence. The production, created by Story Syndicate, explores themes of prosecutorial misconduct, confirmation bias, and the implications of true-crime obsession.
