HBO to develop ‘The Birds’ limited series starring Sarah Snook

HBO is developing a new limited series inspired by Alfred Hitchcock’s 1963 film ‘The Birds’ and Daphne du Maurier’s original novella. The project will star Emmy winner Sarah Snook, known for her role in ‘Succession’.

Set in contemporary Alaska, the reimagining follows Myra Massey (Snook), a woman returning to her isolated hometown with her young daughter following a bitter custody battle. While investigating the suspicious disappearance of a childhood friend, Myra finds herself caught in a murder mystery and targeted by violent, inexplicable bird attacks that appear linked to the crime.

Tom Spezialy, executive producer of ‘Watchmen’ and ‘The Leftovers’, is writing the pilot and serving as executive producer. David Heyman, producer of the upcoming ‘Harry Potter’ series, will also executive produce alongside Snook and Danny Samit through Heyday Television. The series is a collaboration between HBO and Universal Global Television.
