HBO’s Harry Potter series launches with record streaming budget

HBO is investing the largest ever budget for a streaming series in its new Harry Potter adaptation. The production will rebuild Hogwarts from scratch, feature an entirely new cast, and employ a distinct visual style that shifts from muted tones in the Muggle world to vivid colors in the magical setting. Cinematographer Andrea Goldmann said the series will use progressively darker imagery as the story advances, with new cameras and lenses introduced from the second season onward. HBO aims to expand each book into its own season, allowing deeper character development than the original films.

The series, still in post‑production, is set to premiere later this year and highlights HBO’s ambition to create the most expansive television version of the iconic franchise.
