HBO's Harry Potter TV series set for Christmas 2026 debut

HBO is developing a new live‑action Harry Potter television series that will premiere its first season on HBO Max on Christmas 2026. The show will expand the story beyond the original films, using the longer format to explore everyday life at Hogwarts, including lessons, friendships and Quidditch matches.

Production on the second season is slated to begin by the end of August to keep the young cast aligned with their characters' ages. The announced cast features Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, with John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore and Nick Frost as Hagrid, among others.

The series aims to bring new depth to the beloved saga while retaining the iconic elements that defined the original movies.
