DC Studios’ Lanterns series to premiere on HBO Max

The DC Studios series ‘Lanterns’ is scheduled to premiere on HBO Max on August 16, 2026. The show is the third television series within the DC Universe and is based on the Green Lantern comic book characters Hal Jordan and John Stewart.

Co-creators Damon Lindelof, Chris Mundy, and Tom King have described the series as having a ‘buddy cop’ storytelling rhythm, comparing its vibe to the film ‘Midnight Run’. The plot follows the two intergalactic peacekeepers as they investigate a murder in Rushville, Nebraska, which leads to cosmic mysteries.

The cast includes Aaron Pierre as John Stewart and Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan, alongside Kelly Macdonald, Nathan Fillion, and others. Following fan discussion regarding the absence of the color green in early teasers, co-creator Damon Lindelof noted the title change from ‘Green Lanterns’ to ‘Lanterns’ was a creative decision made by the team.
