HBX Academy launches cancer research project using quail egg proteins

Karya Farma HBX Ar-Ge Academy, located at ADÜ Teknokent, has launched a biotechnology research project aimed at developing new molecules to target cancer cells using the genetic structure of proteins found in quail eggs.

Founder Hakan Başlık stated that the project focuses on the ‘molecular power’ of quail eggs rather than their nutritional value. The research aims to identify short, biologically active peptide sequences, such as those found in ovotransferrin, which may have antioxidant and immune-regulating properties. By identifying these ‘cryptic peptides,’ researchers hope to create synthetic genes to produce molecule candidates in laboratory settings using microorganisms.

The study intends to test the effects of these produced molecules on colon, breast, and pancreatic cancer cells. Researchers will evaluate mechanisms such as cell proliferation, apoptosis, and oxidative stress, specifically looking for the ability to distinguish cancer cells from healthy cells.
