HCDS mediates education sector crisis in Senegal

The Haut Conseil du Dialogue social (HCDS) has intervened to de-escalate a potential crisis within Senegal’s education sector involving multipurpose and social animators. The mediation follows urgent requests from the Collectif des Animateurs sociaux and the SUDES/Enseignement préscolaire et élémentaire union.

Following the threat of a protest sit-in scheduled for October 5, 2026, HCDS President Faly Seck facilitated discussions between the professionals and the Ministry of National Education. The meeting addressed grievances regarding training and permanent professional integration.

As a result of these constructive discussions, stakeholders have agreed to establish an ad hoc committee to conduct an in-depth review and overhaul of the status of these social and educational agents.
