HCFEA report warns of rising trend of indoor children
A 2024 report by the High Council for Family, Childhood, and Age (HCFEA) highlights the emergence of a ‘generation of indoor children.’ The findings indicate a significant decline in unsupervised outdoor play and free movement, with children increasingly spending time in private, enclosed spaces or in front of screens.
Data from the HCFEA shows a marked loss of autonomy: 97% of primary school students and 77% of middle school students are accompanied by adults on their commutes between home and school. Experts attribute this shift to several factors, including increased parental anxiety, the reduction of dedicated play spaces, and heightened fears regarding automobile traffic in public spaces.
