HCFMRP Pediatric ICU receives award for expanding healthcare access

The Hospital das Clínicas of the Ribeirão Preto Medical School (HCFMRP) at the University of São Paulo has received the ‘Prêmio Acesso Hospitalar – Tabela SUS Paulista’ from the São Paulo State Health Secretariat. The award recognizes the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (CTI Pediátrico) at HC Criança for its significant increase in healthcare production between 2022 and 2025.

During this period, the unit expanded its capacity from 16 beds in 2022 to 20 beds in 2024. This expansion led to a 60% increase in patient admissions, rising from 373 patients in 2022 to 589 in 2025. The growth was supported by a cooperation agreement between the State Government of São Paulo, USP, and HCFMRP, which released resources for strategic areas. In addition to physical infrastructure, the hospital also increased its human resources, particularly nursing staff, to meet the rising demand.
