Héctor Cúper defends tactical changes at Universitario

Universitario de Deportes manager Héctor Cúper has addressed criticisms suggesting his tactical approach is merely a continuation of former coach Jorge Fossati’s system. Speaking to Movistar Deportes, the Argentine strategist defended his decision to implement tactical changes, stating that adjustments are necessary when a specific idea is not yielding results and that such shifts should not offend any coach.

Cúper challenged the comparison by noting that if the team were currently sitting on only five points, the perception of the squad would likely differ. He emphasized that “nobody has the absolute truth” and that coaches must seek solutions through adaptation.

Additionally, Cúper highlighted the positive form of players Gianluca Lapadula and Álex Valera, noting that their goal-scoring contributions and the positive atmosphere within the squad provide reasons for optimism. Universitario is scheduled to face UTC on August 29 for the seventh round of the Torneo Clausura.
