Héctor Rodríguez Pimentel to lecture on Dominican Republic-Haiti relations

Writer and former Dominican consul to Port-au-Prince, Héctor Rodríguez Pimentel, will deliver a lecture titled “República Dominicana y Haití: una historia de encuentros y desencuentros” (Dominican Republic and Haiti: a history of encounters and disagreements) on October 29.

Sponsored by the National Museum of History and Geography in Santo Domingo, the presentation will examine the historical, political, economic, and social developments between the two nations. Rodríguez Pimentel will address periods of both cooperation and confrontation, as well as the modern challenges posed by Haiti’s ongoing political, institutional, and security crises and their impact on the Dominican Republic.

The lecture will draw upon his recent works, “Haití, el vecino desconocido” and “Crisis de 1994, punto de inflexión en la política dominicana,” incorporating personal reflections from his diplomatic service.
