Héctor Valdez Albizu recognized as top central bank governor
Héctor Valdez Albizu, Governor of the Central Bank of the Dominican Republic, has been named one of the world’s best central bank governors for the fourth time. The recognition comes from Global Finance magazine, which awarded him an A- rating in its Central Banker Report Cards 2026.
The publication evaluated central banks based on inflation control, financial stability, and political independence. Valdez Albizu was specifically noted for implementing monetary policies focused on price stability, which have helped strengthen investor confidence, attract foreign direct investment, and support economic growth and labor market stability in the Dominican Republic.
The award was announced during the International Monetary Fund and World Bank annual meetings in Bangkok, Thailand. Christopher Giarraputo, director of the Global Finance Editorial Board, presented the distinction to Joel González, the Central Bank’s Deputy Manager of Monetary Programming, who accepted it on behalf of the governor.
