HD Hyundai Chairman Ki-sun Chung marks one year of leadership

HD Hyundai Chairman Ki-sun Chung is approaching his first anniversary in office, having overseen significant structural reorganizations and record-breaking financial performance. Under his leadership, the group completed mergers between its shipbuilding and construction equipment subsidiaries to enhance operational efficiency and competitiveness.

Key strategic moves include expanding into the U.S. defense market through collaborations with companies like Anduril and targeting new growth engines such as Small Modular Reactors (SMR) and AI-related power equipment. The group has committed over 1 trillion won to develop SMR core components and land-based power generation facilities.

Despite achieving record revenues, Chung faces challenges including intense technological competition from China, labor disputes, and geopolitical instability in the Middle East. To counter these, the group is pursuing global expansion, particularly in India and Southeast Asia, to maintain price competitiveness and secure market share in high-value sectors like LNG carriers.
