HD Hyundai Electric celebrates 1,000th US transformer at Alabama plant

HD Hyundai Electric marked the production of its 1,000th ultrahigh‑voltage transformer at its North American manufacturing subsidiary in Alabama. The 500‑kilovolt, 675‑megavolt‑ampere unit will be delivered to Georgia Transmission Corp. for use in supplying electricity to Walton County, Florida.

The Alabama facility, opened in 2011, has grown its annual capacity from 70 to 105 transformers, making it the largest U.S. power‑transformer plant. The company now holds a 25.7% share of the U.S. market for transformers rated 100 MVA or higher and is ranked #1 for that segment for two consecutive years. A second plant under construction will boost capacity by about 50% and enable production of units up to 765 kilovolts. CEO Kim Young‑ki highlighted the milestone as evidence of the firm’s technological expertise and its expanding foothold in the North American power‑equipment market.
