HD Hyundai Heavy Industries to build 500MW offshore substation in Taean

HD Hyundai Heavy Industries has signed a contract with Taean Wind Power to construct a 500MW offshore substation in Taean, South Korea. The project scope includes the design, procurement, manufacturing, installation, and commissioning of the facility.

Taean Wind Power is a joint venture consisting of Singapore-based Vena Energy, Denmark-based Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), and the South Korean state-owned utility Korea Western Power. The substation will serve as a critical component for an offshore wind farm located near Gaido-ri, Taean, by increasing voltage to transmit electricity from wind turbines to the mainland.

HD Hyundai Heavy Industries previously secured preliminary design and priority supply agreements for this project earlier this year. The company’s 500MW offshore substation model has received design verification from DNV, marking the first time a domestic offshore substation design has been recognized for compliance with international safety and design standards.
