HD KSOE advances AI maritime tech and offshore power solutions

HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (HD KSOE) has achieved two significant technological milestones in maritime and energy infrastructure.

Lloyd’s Register has awarded Approval in Principle (AiP) to HD KSOE for its VesselWise ‘Autonomous Auxiliary Machinery Optimisation Function’. Part of the Integrated Smartship Solution platform, this technology uses artificial intelligence to autonomously optimize onboard auxiliary machinery systems. The approval validates the concept against safety, performance, and cybersecurity requirements, with future testing planned for a 174,000 cbm LNG carrier.

Separately, HD Hyundai is developing a barge-mounted power plant designed to supply up to 100 megawatts of electricity. The American Bureau of Shipping has granted Approval in Principle for the core technologies of this floating facility, which utilizes HD Hyundai’s HiMSEN engines. The company aims to target the growing electricity demands of AI data centers and industrial complexes, offering a solution that reduces land-use constraints and siting difficulties associated with traditional power plants.
