HD Kumaraswamy proposes reducing government service tenure

Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy has proposed a new model for government employment aimed at addressing rising unemployment. He suggested reducing the standard service tenure of government employees from approximately 35 years to a period of 10 to 20 years. The stated objective of this proposal is to ensure that every household can secure at least one government job by increasing the frequency of vacancies.

Under this proposed framework, employees who complete their shortened tenure would remain eligible for pensions and other retirement benefits. Kumaraswamy clarified that the idea is currently intended for public discussion and is not an implemented policy, though he expressed interest in exploring its implementation in the future.

During an interaction with aspirants in Bengaluru, Kumaraswamy also addressed concerns regarding the Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC). He criticized the institution for a lack of transparency and alleged that corruption has impacted various recruitment processes. Candidates at the event raised grievances concerning examination irregularities, delays in results, and issues with recruitment notifications.
