HDFC Bank nominates successors for CEO Sashidhar Jagdishan
HDFC Bank has proposed two candidates to the Reserve Bank of India to succeed CEO and Managing Director Sashidhar Jagdishan. Jagdishan’s term is set to end in October, and the proposed appointment would be for a three-year period, pending formal regulatory approval.
In addition to the CEO succession, the bank is restructuring its leadership team. V Srinivasa Rangan has been confirmed as a Whole-Time Director for another year, and Jimmy Tata has been appointed to a three-year term in the same capacity. This expansion of the board to four full-time directors aims to provide stability to India’s largest private lender.
Market reaction has been mixed, with the bank's stock facing pressure and recording a loss of approximately 36 percent since the beginning of the year. However, UBS has maintained a buy recommendation with a price target of 1,000 rupees, suggesting that clarity regarding the leadership transition could serve as a catalyst for a valuation re-rating.
