Hódmezővásárhely man faces trial for attempted murder with a pickaxe
The trial of a 43-year-old man from Hódmezővásárhely has begun at the Szeged Court. The defendant faces charges of attempted murder, trespassing, and other crimes following an incident in July 2024.
According to prosecutors, the man had a history of conflicts with his partner and her daughter due to aggressive behavior and alcohol consumption. After being evicted from their home in July, the man allegedly made life-threatening threats via telephone. On July 30, when an acquaintance arrived to assist the women, the defendant appeared at the residence with a pickaxe. He reportedly threatened the women with death and struck the man who came to help in the head with the tool. The victim was further kicked in the head while on the ground.
The prosecution has requested a six-year prison sentence without the possibility of parole. While the defendant admitted guilt and apologized to those involved, he contested certain details of the indictment. Judge Imola Horváth-Tóth declined to accept the confession as a basis for an immediate ruling, ordering the case to proceed to a full trial.
