HDMI connection allows older TVs to function as Smart TVs
Older televisions with a functional HDMI port can be converted into Smart TVs using external devices, extending the lifespan of hardware that still provides satisfactory image quality but lacks internet connectivity or modern software support.
By connecting a compatible TV Box or a small streaming stick via HDMI, users can access popular platforms such as Netflix, YouTube, Disney+, and Prime Video, as well as various music and news applications. The HDMI connection allows for the digital transfer of high-quality audio and video, enabling the television to act as a display for the external device's operating system, such as Android TV, Google TV, or Amazon Fire TV.
Two main categories of devices are available on the Greek market: streaming sticks, which are compact and plug directly into the HDMI port, and TV Boxes, which offer more ports, larger storage, and additional features. While many modern devices support Wi-Fi, remote controls, and voice commands, the final image quality remains dependent on the original television's capabilities; for instance, a 4K device cannot upgrade a Full HD screen to 4K resolution.
