He-Man's 'Masters of the Universe' film premieres worldwide

The live‑action "Masters of the Universe" helmed by Travis Knight opened in cinemas on 5 June. starring Nicholas Galitzine as Prince Adam/He‑Man, the cast includes Idris Elba, Camila Mendes, Jared Leto and Alison Brie. Principal photography took place in England—London, Wells, Hertfordshire—and additional shoots occurred in Italy and Iceland.

Early reviews note the film’s vibrant visual style and faithful nods to the 1980s franchise, but point to uneven storytelling and under‑used supporting characters. Critics highlight Galitzine’s performance and the action set‑pieces, while some find the hero’s transformation abrupt.

In an interview, director Knight described the project as “campy, goofy and heartfelt,” emphasizing the balance between comedy and spectacle and noting a cameo by Dolph Lundgren. The film also restores the original sidekick Orko in a post‑credits scene, correcting a long‑standing fan grievance.

Epic Games capitalised on the release by launching a "Masters of the Universe" crossover in Fortnite, offering He‑Man, Skeleton and She‑Ra skins for a limited time.
