Head lice detection and treatment for children

With the return to school, head lice have become a common issue among children. These parasites are frequently found in school-aged children due to close physical contact during play and are not related to a lack of hygiene.

Common symptoms include scalp itching, particularly behind the ears and at the nape of the neck. To confirm an infestation, it is recommended to inspect the hair under good lighting for both adult lice—which are small, greyish or brown, and move quickly—and nits, which adhere closely to the hair shaft near the scalp.

Effective detection methods include using a fine-toothed lice comb on wet, conditioned hair, combing from root to tip. Once confirmed, specific products such as lotions can be used to eliminate the parasites and prevent spread to other family members.
