Head of the Charles Regatta features historic senior crew and collegiate teams
The 61st Head of the Charles Regatta is scheduled to take place this weekend on the Charles River in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The event features various competitive categories, including women's and heavyweight rowing.
Columbia University's rowing teams are set to compete in several events, including the Women's Club Fours, Men's Championship Fours, Women's Championship Fours, and Men's Championship Eights. Additionally, the King's Crown Rowing Association will enter three boats in the alumni racing categories.
Highlighting the diversity of the competition, a crew of eight women from Marin County, California, is set to make history. They represent the first all-women's crew in their 80s to compete in an eight-person boat at the regatta. Many members of this crew began rowing later in life, noting that they grew up in an era before Title IX expanded athletic opportunities for women.
