Head of the Schuylkill Regatta attracts thousands to Philadelphia

The 56th Head of the Schuylkill Regatta took place in Philadelphia, bringing nearly 9,000 competitors from over 30 states and five countries to the Schuylkill River. The two-day event featured athletes ranging in age from 14 to 84, competing along a 2.4-mile course.

Local collegiate teams saw notable performances during the competition. The University of Delaware's Freshmen/Novice 8+ crew earned a bronze medal with a time of 14:13. Villanova University also saw success, with its 1V4 boat securing a fifth-place finish in the Championship Fours with a time of 13:55, and several other boats recording top-10 finishes.

Robert Zagunis, chair of the US Rowing Board of Directors, noted Philadelphia's importance to the sport, citing Boathouse Row as a central hub for the rowing community. The regatta is recognized as Philadelphia's largest and most inclusive rowing competition, with women making up half of this year's entries.
