Health Accreditation Milestones in Chile and Dominican Republic

The Cesfam Dr. Juan Marqués Vismara health centre in Pica, Chile, received the official Quality Accreditation from the Superintendence of Health, becoming the first primary‑care facility in the Tarapacá region to meet national clinical safety standards. The certification follows a rigorous evaluation of clinical indicators, safety protocols, equipment maintenance and overall management, and is intended to serve as a model for other regional health centres.

In the Dominican Republic, Juan Gerardo Mesa, director of Habilitation and Accreditation at the Ministry of Public Health, urged citizens to verify the accreditation status of health facilities and professionals through the ministry’s online portal. Mesa’s warning came after the death of 27‑year‑old Rebeca Brizard, who underwent a procedure performed by an unqualified barber at the Clínica Obesidad y Anti‑Envejecimiento Doctora Griselda Basora in Santo Domingo Oeste. The clinic operated without proper authorization and was subsequently closed by authorities.
