Health advice for maintaining immunity during autumn and winter

As temperatures drop, health experts emphasize several lifestyle habits to reduce the risk of colds and viral infections. Key recommendations include ensuring adequate sleep (seven to eight hours for adults), engaging in regular outdoor physical activity, and maintaining a diverse diet rich in seasonal fruits and vegetables such as apples, cabbage, peppers, and carrots.

Hygiene and environmental factors also play a significant role. Frequent and thorough handwashing, especially after using public transport or visiting shops, is advised, along with regular ventilation of indoor spaces. Staying hydrated with water, warm teas, and soups is also recommended.

Regarding preventative measures, flu vaccinations are specifically encouraged for individuals over 65, pregnant women, and those with chronic illnesses. While some practitioners suggest herbal tea routines involving honey, propolis, and pollen to soothe the throat, experts warn that these are not substitutes for medical treatment or a healthy lifestyle. Special caution is advised for individuals with diabetes or allergies to bee products, and honey should never be given to infants under 12 months due to the risk of botulism.
