Health advice for managing circulation and heavy legs

High temperatures in summer can lead to a sensation of heavy legs due to the dilation of blood vessels, which slows blood return to the heart and causes swelling in the ankles and calves. To mitigate this, experts recommend regular physical activity such as walking or swimming, as well as maintaining proper hydration to help the body regulate temperature.

Regarding posture, crossing one's legs for short periods is generally harmless for healthy individuals. While it may temporarily slow venous return by compressing veins, it does not cause varicose veins, thrombosis, or pulmonary embolisms. The primary health risk is prolonged immobility rather than the specific sitting position. Experts advise standing up regularly and performing ankle movements to maintain circulation.
