Health alerts issued in Nicotera and Montefiascone due to bacterial contamination

Authorities in Italy have issued health warnings following the detection of bacterial contamination in Nicotera and Montefiascone.

In Nicotera Marina, the mayor issued an ordinance banning swimming within a 50-meter radius of the area in front of Fosso San Giovanni. This follows ARPACAL analyses revealing alarming levels of Escherichia coli and intestinal Enterococci. Local critics have noted that the ordinance does not address the heavily polluted waters of the Fosso San Giovanni itself or the lack of fencing around the area.

In Montefiascone, an ordinance has been issued for the Centro-La Rocca area after Arpa Lazio detected Enterococci levels exceeding conformity limits in the water network. Residents are prohibited from drinking the water or using it to brush teeth. While the water remains usable for general domestic hygiene, it must be boiled for at least 10 to 15 minutes before being used for food preparation or washing food.
