Italy pharmaceutical sector reaches 74 billion euro production

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has identified the pharmaceutical industry as a driving force of the “Made in Italy” brand. In a letter marking the 50th anniversary of Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicines in Latina, Meloni noted that in 2025, Italian pharmaceutical production reached 74 billion euros, with exports exceeding 69 billion euros.

The sector is viewed as a strategic component for Italy's competitiveness and strategic autonomy, integrating scientific research, advanced technology, and industrial capacity. Meloni emphasized the government's commitment to strengthening the national health service and fostering collaboration between the scientific community and local industries to improve patient care and national growth.

Separately, at a health and innovation forum in Rome, Minister of Health Orazio Schillaci discussed the sustainability of the National Health Service. He highlighted an increase in the national health fund of nearly 18 billion euros and noted the implementation of mental health funding and the activation of over 1,200 community houses through PNRR plans.
