Health and nutrition guidelines for individuals over 40

As individuals reach their 40s and 50s, physiological changes such as a declining metabolic rate, fluctuating estrogen levels, and reduced vascular elasticity can increase the risk of health issues and make weight management more difficult.

Nutritional strategies to support health include consuming nutrient-dense foods like avocados, which provide monounsaturated fatty acids and fiber; beans, which offer plant-based protein and essential minerals; and quinoa, a whole grain that aids digestive health and satiety.

Preventative medical screenings are also critical for early detection of asymptomatic conditions like hypertension, high cholesterol, diabetes, and certain cancers. In Greece, the National Prevention Program ‘PROLAMBANO’ is scheduled to continue from September 2026 through the end of 2030, providing organized actions for early disease detection. Regular monitoring of blood pressure is specifically recommended to mitigate risks of heart attack, stroke, and kidney disease.
