Health and safety advice for traveling with young children
Medical experts are providing guidance for parents traveling with young children to ensure safety and health during vacations.
Dr. Rob Robert, an ENT specialist, recommends preparing a specific medical kit for ear, nose, and throat (ENT) emergencies. This kit should ideally include anti-inflammatories, antihistamines, nasal sprays, oropharyngeal antiseptics, ear drops for otitis, earwax removal sprays, sterile compresses, and betadine. He emphasizes that while these supplies can help manage immediate symptoms, they do not replace a professional medical evaluation.
Regarding general travel safety, pediatric experts suggest prioritizing secure accommodations. Parents are advised to check for amenities such as portable cribs, high chairs, and safety gates for stairs or balconies. For infants, maintaining safe sleep practices is critical; the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that babies under one year old sleep on their backs on a firm, flat surface, preferably in the same room as parents but not in the same bed.
