ChequéateRD program reaches over 144,000 cancer screenings

The ChequéateRD program, a national initiative for the timely detection of breast, cervical, and prostate cancer in the Dominican Republic, has reached over 144,000 screenings since its launch in 2021. Developed by the National Health Service (SNS) in coordination with the Office of the First Lady, the program provides free prevention and diagnostic services through 13 prioritized hospitals and 632 mobile health clinics.

Data indicates that 103,775 women and 40,679 men have participated in the screenings. Specifically, the program has conducted 72,007 breast cancer studies, 31,850 cervical cancer tests, and 40,608 prostate cancer exams. Of the participants, 19,724 showed relevant findings, and 387 were diagnosed via biopsy, with 332 currently undergoing treatment.

First Lady Raquel Arbaje, alongside SNS Executive Director Dr. Julio Landrón and Health Minister Víctor Atallah, emphasized the program's role in reducing cancer mortality. Medical professionals, including psychiatrist Dr. Francis Báez, have also highlighted the necessity of integrating mental health support with physical cancer prevention to ensure comprehensive patient care.
