Health authorities address rising disease risks in Argentina and Cuba

Health authorities in Argentina and Cuba are addressing rising epidemiological concerns. In Olavarría, Argentina, the municipality is launching two rapid testing centers for HIV and syphilis at Health Centers No. 5 and No. 7 starting in October. Dr. Victoria Nogal, Subsecretary of Primary Health Care, noted a significant increase in syphilis cases and emphasized that many sexually transmitted infections can develop without visible symptoms. The testing, available to individuals over 13, requires no medical referral and provides results within 20 minutes.

In Cuba, Vice Minister of Public Health Dr. Carilda Peña García has issued warnings regarding arboviruses, specifically highlighting the risk of chikungunya. The most affected territories include Pinar del Río, Sancti Spíritus, Villa Clara, and several municipalities in Havana. Health officials are urging families to eliminate mosquito breeding sites within homes and to cooperate with fumigation efforts to protect vulnerable groups, including pregnant women, young children, and individuals with comorbidities.
