Health authorities in Costa Rica and Mexico issue fraud alerts

Health authorities in Costa Rica and Mexico have issued warnings regarding fraudulent activities targeting vulnerable populations.

In Costa Rica, Hospital San Juan de Dios alerted oncology patients about a false WhatsApp message claiming to offer free Uber trips through a program called ‘Moviendo Esperanza’. The hospital clarified that its Social Work department does not coordinate such transportation and expressed concern that the misinformation creates false expectations for vulnerable cancer patients.

In Mexico, the Nayarit Health Services reported that individuals in Santiago Ixcuintla are using fake credentials to impersonate dengue prevention workers. The institution warned residents not to allow access to their homes or provide information to anyone using unauthorized identification, noting that legitimate staff must wear specific uniforms and carry local official identification.
