Health authorities in Indonesia issue warnings over respiratory illnesses

Health officials in several Indonesian regions are warning the public about the risks of respiratory infections and other diseases. In South Tangerang, the Health Office has noted that unhealthy air quality may exacerbate risks of Acute Respiratory Infection (ISPA), particularly for children. While case trends for ISPA and diarrhea remain similar to previous years, officials emphasize the importance of clean living behaviors and maintaining immunity to mitigate risks.

In East Kalimantan, the provincial Health Office is focusing on influenza prevention. Although only 19 cases were recorded between January and October 21, 2026, authorities are urging the public not to underestimate the virus. Recommended preventive measures include regular handwashing, practicing cough etiquette, wearing masks when symptomatic, considering annual vaccinations, and seeking medical attention if symptoms worsen.
