Health authorities in Pernambuco expand breast cancer screening services

Health services in the state of Pernambuco are expanding breast cancer diagnostic capabilities through new equipment and mobile initiatives.

In Recife, the Hospital da Mulher (HMR) has implemented a new GE Pristina digital mammography machine, an investment of R$ 1.5 million made in partnership with the Federal Government. The technology allows for 600 mammographies per month and includes stereotactic mammography, which uses three-dimensional coordinates to precisely locate lesions.

In Petrolina, the municipal government announced that results from 1,377 mammographies performed in September via the ‘Cuida Mais Mulher’ mobile unit are now available. Patients can access their reports through the official website or via a QR code. Health officials advise that while images can be viewed online, professional medical evaluation at a Basic Health Unit (UBS) is necessary for diagnosis and follow-up care.
