Health authorities seize 131 kg of food in Calama and San Pedro de Atacama
The El Loa Provincial Office of the Seremi de Salud has conducted 17 inspections in Calama and San Pedro de Atacama as part of a preventive program for the Fiestas Patrias celebrations. These measures resulted in 12 sanitary summaries and the seizure of 131.3 kilograms of meat and other products deemed a health risk.
Deficiencies identified in butcher shops, empanada factories, and supermarkets included expired food, improper preservation, deteriorated organoleptic characteristics, and loss of vacuum packaging. Inspectors also noted poor sanitary conditions and structural deficiencies in several establishments.
In Calama, sanctions were issued to Carnicería San Juan, Carnicería Carnes Kar, Carnicería del Valle, Unimarc supermarkets, Líder supermarket, and Carnicería Mar y Carne. In San Pedro de Atacama, inspections targeted a butcher shop on Licancabur street, Carnicería JC, Minimarket Ketal, and an empanada factory on Láscar street. Authorities stated that inspections will continue through the holiday period, with potential fines ranging from one-tenth to 1,000 UTM.
