Health benefits and risks of water consumption
Maintaining adequate water intake is essential for human health, as water constitutes approximately 60% of the body. Vital organs rely heavily on hydration; for instance, the brain and heart are composed of 73% water, while lungs consist of 83%. Proper hydration supports oxygen transport through the blood, protects joints and cartilage, and maintains the moisture of mucous membranes in the eyes and nose.
Insufficient water consumption can lead to various physiological issues. Common symptoms of dehydration include thirst, dry mouth, dark-colored urine, fatigue, headaches, and difficulty concentrating. Lack of fluids can also cause constipation, dry skin, muscle cramps, and difficulty regulating body temperature. In severe cases, dehydration may increase heart rate and elevate the risk of urinary tract problems.
