Health campaigns launch oral cancer screening initiatives in Argentina
Health authorities in Argentina are conducting regional campaigns focused on the prevention and early detection of oral cancer.
In Luján de Cuyo, the OSEP Preventive and Social Dentistry Residency is participating in the XV Oral Cancer Prevention Campaign. As part of this initiative, dental professionals will provide free oral examinations and distribute informative materials at the departmental plaza. The program aims to identify potentially malignant lesions early and provide referrals to municipal health centers or OSEP facilities for necessary follow-up.
Simultaneously, in San Rafael, the dentistry and maxillofacial surgery services at Hospital Schestakow organized a campaign under the slogan ‘Sacale la lengua al cáncer’ (Stick your tongue out at cancer). Dozens of residents participated in walk-in screenings to evaluate oral health and address concerns regarding lesions or changes in the mouth. Medical professionals emphasized that early diagnosis is critical for improving treatment outcomes, noting that risk factors include tobacco and alcohol use, prolonged sun exposure, and HPV infections.
